Friends and Rainbow Colours
by Beloved Dancer
Friends are like the colors of the rainbow—
bringing warmth, joy, depth,
calm and harmony into your life.
Each color vibrates differently—
some bold, some quiet—
but together, they’re just… beautiful.
You’ll seldom meet a person
who doesn’t pause in wonder
at the sight of a rainbow.
Lately, when I see one,
I make a conscious effort to notice
each and every color.
Some draw me in.
Others, soft and unassuming,
play a vital role in holding the whole thing together.
Just like my friends.
Red and orange—
they are warmth and fire.
Passion. Vitality. Adventure.
They are self-sustaining,
confident: I am here. What are you going to do about it?
They burn, yes—
but what’s a little scalding
when you glow in their presence?
Yellow is that one girlfriend—
the one you giggle with,
frolicking through younger, carefree days.
Laughing at a passing fly?
Entirely possible.
She reminds you of who you were—
before the world made you question it.
When self-worth was easy.
When courage came in waves.
If Ms. Rona taught us anything,
it’s that yellow belongs in our spaces.
It brightens the dullest days
and brings us back to center.
I never paid much attention
to the vibrations of color—
not until I learned about color psychology.
Ask the marketers.
Turns out, some choices you think you’re making
aren’t entirely your own.
There’s a reason they put you in a green room
before a show.
Green is calming—
it whispers begin again.
It is nature, cleansing,
permission to start fresh.
To reinvigorate. To reinvent.
Then comes blue...
sigh
Blue is what I wish I could be,
but never quite become.
Calm. Steady. Constant.
Safe.
These friends let you speak your truth
no matter what it is.
They listen with no judgment,
wrap your mess in a neat, safe bow.
Indigo—
the hardest to spot.
Unassuming. Easy to miss.
These are the ones with heads in the clouds,
dreaming deeper than you know.
They pull you into higher places,
where conversation
never stays on the surface.
And violet?
A whole question mark.
Mystical.
Intriguing.
With every encounter,
you want to know more.
If you're lucky enough
to have a bunch of friends
across the full spectrum—
who work beautifully and magically
like the rainbow—
then you are blessed.
And on the days the rainbow doesn't appear?
Turn on the sprinkler.
Pour the wine.
Voila—
Magic.
